Mathematics/English

Entandweni after school  provides academic services which aid the children with reading and writing in order to gain their confidence. This is due to the English language being an international language and is should be taught from a young age to help the children throughout their future. Furthermore, math’s support is given for the children to learn and achieve knowledge for their further education. It is known that these children struggle with these subjects the most and need more support and further learning outside of school to help them succeed.

Homework

Homework should be bought along to the after-school , so that teachers and volunteers can help and support the children with this homework. This is a good way for the children to be able to ask questions about their work and be able to reiterate what they have learnt in class to help them boost their confidence and gain more knowledge. The one to one learning support can be helpful for children who do not have parents to rely on for homework support as many parents may be working. This opportunity should be used as much as possible, and this can help enhance the children’s education.

Life skills

Life skills are essential for children to learn from a young age in South Africa, so that they are aware of the world around them and how to overcome problems. These include, child abuse, crime prevention and HIV awareness as well as personal hygiene etc.. They will also get interactive with tasks such as painting and drawing and get involved in outdoor activities such as football and netball. This allows for children to get the recommended exercise to keep their minds and body in top form to be able to learn. This also allows for the children to indulge in a social life with many of people of the same age and enjoy getting to be able to communicate and talk to the teachers or volunteers about their daily life and if there are any problems talk to someone who can support them.

Future Plans

In the near future we aim to be able to supply the program with more variety bringing in drama, music and more arts and crafts for the children. Being creative builds children’s confidence and self-esteem. This gives children more hope in the future to inspire to do what they want to do. Learning valuable skills that they may never have the chance to do again.
